The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and less crowded trails on Mount Kilimanjaro, beginning on the western side and crossing the dramatic Shira Plateau. With plenty of time to acclimatize, it offers one of the highest summit success rates. The route merges with Machame on Day 4, offering varied terrain and breathtaking views from start to finish.

FULL ITINERARY
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be met and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. Overnight stay at Arusha Serena Hotel
In the morning, you will be driven to Londorossi Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, the starting point for the Lemosho Route. After registration and a picnic lunch, your hike begins. You will walk for 3 to 4 hours through pristine montane forest where you might spot black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and various bird species. You’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at FOREST CAMP (Approx. 2,895 meters).
After breakfast, you will trek out of the forest and into the Hagenia zone. Today’s hike lasts between 6 to 9 hours and includes several ridges with scenic views of the Kibo peak. You will enjoy a hot dinner and overnight stay at SHIRA 1 CAMP (Approx. 3,505 meters).
Today’s trek takes you across the beautiful and vast Shira Plateau. After a picnic lunch at Scott Fischer Memorial Camp, you’ll continue toward Moir Camp, located in the upper heath zone. Weather permitting, you may take an acclimatization hike in the afternoon. Hiking time is 5 to 6 hours. Dinner and overnight at MOIR CAMP (Approx. 4,160 meters).
This morning, you will leave the heath zone and enter the alpine zone, hiking for 4 to 6 hours. You’ll pass Lava Tower (up to 4,360 meters), then descend into the scenic Barranco Valley. Enjoy a hot dinner and overnight stay at BARRANCO CAMP (Approx. 3,975 meters).
Today is a full day. You’ll start by climbing the impressive Barranco Wall, then continue up and down across small valleys to Karanga Camp, followed by a hike to Barafu Camp. This combined day is designed for those on a 7-day itinerary. After settling into camp, you’ll rest and prepare for your midnight summit attempt. Hot dinner and overnight stay at BARAFU CAMP (Approx. 4,600 meters).
This is the day you’ve been waiting for!
You’ll begin your summit attempt around 11:00 PM or midnight. Using headlamps, you will trek for 6 to 7 hours to reach Stella Point, and then another 1 to 2 hours to reach Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa at 5,896 meters. After celebrating and taking photos, you’ll descend to Barafu Camp for lunch and then continue to Mweka Camp for your final overnight stay on the mountain. Total hiking time is 12 to 17 hours. Dinner and overnight at MWEKA CAMP (Approx. 3,185 meters).
After an early breakfast, you will descend for 3 to 5 hours through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here, you’ll receive your summit certificates and say goodbye to your mountain team. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Arusha
Dinner and overnight at Arusha Serena Lodge.
